Wapping Group of Artists

We were delighted that Paul Banning was greatly honoured to be awarded the Turner Watercolour Award, donated by the Turner Bequest, at The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in March 2011 - there is more detail on Paul's website.

The paintings above formed part of the Group's 65th Annual Exhibition, which was held at The Mall Galleries, East Gallery in February 2011. The Exhibition went well, receiving many visitiors over the week and sales were significantly up on the last year or two.
The Wapping Group are delighted that their sponsors Harlow Investment & Funding Ltd (part of the S.Harlow Period Oak Group) assisted in the funding of this successful Exhibition.

Welcome to the website of one of the longest established societies of working artists in the country.

The Wapping Group was formally founded in 1946 and initially met to record the busy life of London's dockland. Since then, the range of locations has widened in response to the changes of The Thames – on any Wednesday between April and September members of the Group may now be found in any weather at a rendezvous anywhere from inland Henley and out to The Estuary. This companionable band of just 25 dedicated and capable painters maintains the original Group aims of fellowship and enthusiastic recording and interpretation of the River.

On this website you may find a little more background and history, information about the current members and Exhibitions, and a selection of images which we hope will give an insight into the Wapping Group and its work.
