1: Abingdon

Very occasionally the Wappers venture up the Thames beyond Henley. In 2011 at least a dozen members of the group made what was for some a long journey to this attractive town. There was some cloud cover but the sun shone brightly on a waterfront that has barely changed in centuries and conditions were ideal for plein-air painting. Here is David Penny’s watercolour ‘Fishing the Thames, Abingdon’ (14 x 18 inches), now in a private collection:
